Greetings from Singapore

It's 11:34am on December 23rd and I'm out here in Singapore! As usual, it's hot and humid here. But it's always good to see my family. And this year the holiday season should be even more fun because Mike flew out with me! While we're here we'll also be going to the island of Borneo to climb Mt. Kinabalu. It's the tallest mountain in Southeast Asia at 13,500ft. I hope I make it :) We will also be going to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to go to the tallest buildings in the world. I'm super excited to see both of these places. We leave for our trip on Christmas morning.

This morning Mike & I went to the gym and now we're going to meet my mom and dad for lunch.

More to come later...

Brokeback Mountain

I'm officially halfway done with exams!! So as a reward, last night I went to the opening of "Brokeback Mountain" (aka: the gay cowboy movie).

First of all, I want to move to Wyoming. The movie takes place there in the 1960s and it's absolutely gorgeous. I totally want to know where they shot this, and then I want to go there forever (well almost anyway). The director did a really good job of using the landscape to his advantage. It just seemed so peaceful and idyllic. I want that.

And against this backdrop we have Jack and Ennis (which Kristin pointed out rhymes with penis), two cowboys who fall in love with each other (interestingly enough, they never say "I love you" to each other in the film). When they're out there alone on this mountain, all that matters is the two of them...and it's actually quite beautiful. They laugh, they love, and they're the most at ease when they are with each other.

Calling this movie the "gay cowboy" movie, to me, is a misnomer though. The movie seems to be more about how sad it is to not have the one you love; how isolated it feels because you can't always be with that person. I think that can apply to any hetero- or homosexual relationship. The movie was about the desperateness of not having the ability to do anything about the situation. It drives Jack to find new lovers and it ruins Ennis' marriage and drives him into depression and isolation. Along with having to deal with hiding their homosexuatlity, they also have wives, kids, society, fears, and distance...a whole host of problems (many of which would still exist today). And in the end it was just so sad to see them both trying to cope with it.

So why am I even writing about this? I'm not sure. But the movie got me thinking about a lot of things last night & today. I think this is was makes it a fabulous movie though. And there were actually a lot of funny parts in it, so it wasn't totally heavy. And I would like to note, even though the movie focused on a gay relationship, I still saw 2 sets of boobs...what's up with that?

Ok, enough movie talk. Maybe the real reason I'm writing this is so that I don't have to study for CIVIL PROCEDURE! Bleh. But I do see the light at the end of the tunnel: 6 days until the Fall Semeseter is done; 10 days before I leave for Singapore! YAY!!

Study Break

So I've never done this blogging thing before...but I need a study break so no time better than the present, right? Good, I agree

Tomorrow is my first law school final. It's Contracts and it should be the easiest (that's really relative) of the 4 I have to take in the next 2 weeks. I'm actually just excited to get the first one done with so that I know what to expect for the next 3. I'm tired of all of this anxiety and anticipation already.

Along with finding out that there is a lot about Contracts I need to learn, I also found out today that Hastings is a police state. They have very strict rules about what you can bring to the final. As in, you can only bring your computer...and that's it. Not even a bag to carry it in. Oh, and you can bring water, but only if it's in a clear container. I heard a story today about how someone got her muffin confiscated! They are not messing around here.

As a side note, sorry if it seems like I've disappeared over these last few months, but school has just been so busy! But I assure you that I still remember all of you. I cannot wait until the 16th when the semester is over and I can go home I'm also excited about not staying up until 1:30am and waking up early everyday also. It's all going to be done before I know it...unfortuntately, that means that I am running out of study time.

With that said...time to go back to work...poopy.

PS: The whole reason I even have a Blog? Unfortunately it's due to a sad turn of events. My friend was involved in a serious accident and his mom has been posting daily updates about him on this site.
